This morning on my way into work (I seem to have an interesting commute), I was pulling into the parking garage and saw a truck do the unthinkable. Well, not really unthinkable, but...just stupid really.
In every parking garage I've ever been in you can either use a key-card to raise the gate or you can punch the little thing to give you a 'ticket' to raise the gate. Well, evidently the truck didn't know this or was trying to, I don't even know, but he tried to tailgate the car in front of him and get in under the same gate lift. This...didn't turn out well. Luckily I was smart enough to pull into the other entrance lane so as I'm getting my ticket I hear an awful noise, look up, and the gate is no more, causing the driver of the truck embarassment and backing up traffic to get into the garage.
Why'd he try it?
I don't know. And I can't really make the spiritual connection without a lot of thought that I don't feel like exerting, but...I just felt like sharing the story.
Oh, and I am going to San Antonio this week for the SOAR conference. SO much fun!!! Yay!

this is so cool!
Some of you may have seen this before but I thought this was neato cheeto! You can plug in some words to this website and they'll use some kind of program to generate the graphic below. You can print out the graphic or save it to the public gallery so other people can see. Some people have done The Bible or their favorite song.
I've always wondered how people did that and now I know!
Beware! It can be addicting!

He's off sides! He's lining up off sides!!
For those of you who read the title and think this post is going to be about football, you might as well stop reading. That quote is from one of my favorite movies, Remember the Titans (let's face it, almost anything with Denzel is 'good', plus it has an awesome soundtrack). Anyway, as I was driving to work this morning I encountered a situation where I said that in my head but I would need to substitute some words in.
My commute to the office is pretty boring considering I only use three streets, but today one of them was backed up because they're resurfacing it and that made for some interesting construction-worker watching. One guy tried to stretch beyond his limit to avoid 'foot-printing' a surface he had just smoothed, and let's just say he didn't quite make it. I felt bad for him considering he'd have to do it over but that's another story for another time.
I've learned that on streets where there are two lanes going each direction, it's a lose-lose situation. Basically because if you're in the right lane, you have people slowing and making right-hand turns, and if you're in the left lane, you have people trying to cross traffic, but the lesser of the evils is most definitely the right hand lane so I usually stay in that lane unless it's pretty clear in the other one (I think that's a run-on sentence, but, I don't care).
There are a lot of one way streets in Dallas. A lot...probably more than there should be (especially Downtown--where I was headed) and as I was be-bopping along, this woman in front of me slowed down to make a right hand turn. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem, however, she was trying to turn and go the wrong direction down a one-way street. I looked in my rear-view to see if I could get over, but sadly I couldn't, so I had to sit there while this woman tried to do the impossible. Fortunately for the woman there was a man in a big 'ole truck that was sitting at the stop light and keeping her from going down this potentially disastrous road. He was waving his arms, pointing at the 'one-way' sign and mouthing something (I can only hope that they were nice words of rebuke instead of...some not so nice ones), but this is where I thought 'Wrong way! You're trying to go the wrong way!!' (see first paragraph to imagine how I said it). Well, the lady realized (not soon enough in my opinion) what she was trying to do and went down the road some more until she could make a right-hand turn.
This got me thinking, how often in my life do I try to go the wrong way down some street and there are some warnings signs (maybe not a guy yelling and pointing...but signs) that I just completely ignore and continue on my merry and doomed way?
Lots! Most of the time the warning sign is my conscience saying 'Rebekah...this isn't going to turn out well.' Or, 'Rebekah...is God going to like this?' The little signs are God's way of saying stop. Turn around. Come back to me. Don't go there! His Word says it as well.
Maybe we should look at what path we're on and make sure it's the narrow one.
Just as a side note, I have driven the wrong way down a busy road...with 4 screaming girls in the car...not good!

Christmas...in June.
For those of you who don't know, I'm an auditor. (Scary, heh?) So, in the world of auditing, the summer can be pretty slow, which is why I'm blogging at 4:30 in the afternoon. But, I digress. This afternoon I was helping someone organize their file folders and decided I was going to listen to some music while I stuck labels on tabs.
It started out normal enough, I started off with the soundtrack to The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. After listening to that, I determined that I don't do well with instrumental music (read--I almost fell asleep). Then it was on to John Mayer's Continuum. Great album, the need for sleep lessened and I was still going at it with the labels. At this point you're probably wondering why it was taking me so long since I had been able to listen to 2 CDs. Well...there were a lot of file folders.
Well, after Mr. Mayer finished crooning it was on to MercyMe's The Christmas Sessions. This has to be one of my all-time favorite Christmas CDs. If you haven't listened to it, I encourage you to go out right now and buy it. If you're disappointed....don't tell me. You might have trouble finding it considering it is a Christmas CD and...it's June, but don't let that stop you! As I'm listening to the songs I'm thinking, this is somewhat strange, me listening to Christmas music in June, but then I realized I needed it. I needed the reminder to be thankful for God sending His son. So often we think 'Oh, Christmas, now we can celebrate Christ's coming.' but that's not how it works. We should be celebrating it all the time!
So that's the story, I listened to my Christmas music in the middle of June and was blessed because of it. That being said...
Merry Christmas!

This should be fun!
So...if you're reading this, you must be really bored or think I'm a cool person. Hopefully it's the latter! I just decided to do this because I have random thoughts all the time and I think they're somewhat amusing so I figured I'd share the amusements with others.
Who knows what the blogging future has in store for me and the readers. I'll blog about what God's doing in my life, interesting things I've seen in the news and on the street, and whatever else tickles my fancy!
Glad you're along for the journey! :)
